I just recently bought a sickle mower at an auction and don't know much about it. I have been told it was a 31V. It has a v belt and a hyd cyl on the left that lifts the bar. It mounts to the drawbar and has a single wheel at the rear. I have been told that it came out in the early 50's.
Any information will be appreciated.

Mike, I got both a 25V and a 27V so I'll try to answer your question. Both machines are v-belt drive, but the upper drive pulley on 25v has smaller holes in it(both have same part number). The gag lever assembly's are different, the 25v is more like the old #9 horse mower. The 25v has a hand wheel for tilting mower bar while 27v has just a bolt and slot arangement. The 25v has a cast piece for the lifting spring attachment, the 27v only has the flat stock of the lifting crank(the piece the chain wraps around that lifts the bar)extending down a few inches. The 25v was made from 1941 to 1950,the 27v was made from 1951 to 1954. After that model 31 was made. One more thing about these two mowers that some people don't have right. These two mowers did not have vertical lift option. The "V" stood for v-belt drive as the model 25 mower was a gear drive mower that was only built for two years. Vertical lift means the bar lifts straight up and to do that it would have to automaticaly disengage the cutter bar drive. I'll post some pics of my two mowers next couple days that will show some of the differences.
