What can I use to put out grass ,brome and orchard seed over a few acres. Are those 3pt broadcast seeders any good or is there a better way to do it?
thanks

Use a Brillion seeder, or equivalent type drop spreader. Brome seed will not flow or spread well through a spinner/broadcast seeder. Seed/soil contact is #1 and the Brillion will roll it into close contact for you after spreading the seed.

Some counties here in Kansas have grass seeders they loan out. Some counties share a common one for loan. Might check with the county where you are at to see if they know of one available.

Broadcast is okay, especially if you pull a packer behind it. You might be able to rent a grass seeder for not too much.

I found a neighbor who had a brillion seeder with the two packers -one forward of seed drop and one back of seed drop site. Other post is correct - have a good seedbed ready. The brillion seeder worked great and was very uncomplicated.

seedbed prep is probably the most important part. i suggest plow, disk, (make sure everything is dead) pack with some kind of packer, seed then pack again. seed to soil firm contact is the primary job.
