...from a two bottom plow? I have a Case plow and some land that hasn't been turned over in 20 years. I'm thinking that I'd have an easier go of things if I took off one of the bottoms. If the answer is yes, which one would I remove?
Thanks,
Gary

I cut off the beam where the rear bottom starts on an A-C mounted 3-bottom once. It worked fine. We wanted to pull it with a W-D in clay soil. Since we had already had 3-bottoms for our WD-45s but couldn't come up with a 2-b for the WD we just cut one off of a 3 we already had. :-)

Is there any way you could go over the ground with a multi-purpose plow (spring loaded chisel plows) first, then use both bottoms?
I did that once when plowing new ground.

Just a thought, and good luck!

You really didn't say what kind of plow you have. Probably not too hard with a 3point.

You need to drop off the rear bottom, and move any tail wheel assembly over to follow the remaining bottom. Easy on some plows, impossible on others.....

Hey Rooker. I have my grandadsa 3 14 Centinnial plow, 1934 that I brought down here from NE Kans to NEE Okla. The soils are sandy down here, and where he could pull 3 14s in Kansas Mssouri River hill ground, I cant pull it on flat bottom. So I tok of the back furrow and it works fine, except the Case still cant pull it without runing hot abd balking when I het strips of dead pan. So I plow and disc with my 38 F-30 Farmall. Same horsepower, b ut lower RPMs, wider tires crosswise, and wider diameter. Not only that, but when I get to a cporner, the drawbar swings further to the side on the 3 than on the CC allowing for easier quicker turns. Yeah, take off the back one ayoull be alright

I'ld sure try pulling it without removing a bottom; it might not pull as hard as you imagine. What do you have for tractor? Any options for using a bigger hp for this project? Better yet it sounds like an excellent reason to buy another.

Gary: I have done this, take the back one off. It will be hard to get the single left on there adjusted properly. Either way you end up with a mess on old ground. The mess is usually less with the one bottom. If this is a mounted plow change the long landside to bottom you are using. It will help if you set your right wheels closer to center of tractor. It works, not well but it works. The plow I did this with was my SA plow. This is also not possible to do with some plows as both beams must be there for plow frame, and pull bar.
