i have a tractor that puts out 60 hp. will it hurt a smaller brush hog with maybe a 30 hp gearbox?

Depends, If you stay in grass and NEVER hit any rocks, stumps, ect.. it will last a while, BUT every time you "shock load" the gear box hitting something it will over load the gear box even if it has a shear pin or drive line clutch. I did it once long ago, and the rotary cutter didn't hold up very well. The deck cracked up all around the gear box too, and i think it was because of the torque it had to take hour after hour.
