Long time ago a fella in TX was to send me pics of a roller he made from 250 gal. propane tank.

I am wanting to build one of these for my new yard and recent driveway improvements. Anyone got any pics or suggestions.

thanks

I've thought about building one myself.
I was going to take a sauno(sp) tube - one of those cardboard forms that they use for pouring concrete into. If you bought one like about 2' dia X 4' long.
Make some round plywood end caps for it with holes in the center for about a 2" pipe. Nail one end on. Stand it up. Stick the pipe into it. Fill it with concrete and nail the other end on.
Make a steel "C" shaped frame to go from one end of the pipe to the other and hook that to your tractor. You'd basically be making a giant rolling pin like your wife uses for pies.
Remember that concrete takes nearly a month to fully cure.
Good luck.

I've seen small yard rollers made out of an old well tank. They had some tall ones with a plug on the bottom.

It was crude but there was a hole drilled through both ends centered. There was a solid shaft through with stays welded on to center it on the bar. There were rings on both ends and it was pulled with a mower and chain hooked through both ends. The bar was long enough that the chain wouldn't catch the roller. The tank was filled with sand or water through the plug.

Might give you some ideas. I've seen holes cut in propane tanks by filling them with water while cutting but I wouldn't want to do it at all.

ShepFL, I would have thought some one would have answered you by now, So here goes..... I have an old Highway Dept. road roller (2ton) It is 4ft wide, The kind that were pulled to the job site on its transport wheels by pickup or truck. Then flip the roller frame over backward then roll the project out. Transport wheels stick up in the air. Ask around some of the costruction companies, someone may have one sitting around on a back lot just rusting away. I maintain 1/2 mi of private road, most of the time I pull it with my 1/2 ton pickup.

Build one-- The LPG tank would work but, cutting the holes in the end of the tank, Explosion chanses, getting the holes in the center , Frame work to support the roller, 2in center shaft through the tank, And the pillowblock bearings to support the roller .
Use 24 or 36 in. well caseing It will be easer to build , The end caps can be laid out on your
welding table, Also the hole for the center shaft can be done now. From my experiences the shaft will be most critical for if it doesn't go all the way through then the stress of turns are all on the end caps and not equalized out on the entire shaft . This is info I have also obtained from a company there in FL . Lawson Cattle Equi.
800-533-2764 Look at how they make ther single roller aerator and there is a pattern you can use to build yours from . All single rollers will have the same basic design.
Sorry this is so long.
Good Luck,
John A.
