Have a pto shaft on a pull type brush hog I bought. Only gave 40 bucks for it gave it a new set of blades and bolts. Problem is that where the shaft slides together is so worn that it wobbles like heck. A new shaft that size is about 200 bucks. More than I will spend for this old mower. Is there any way to fix it? It mows fine other than that.

I would guess that is why you got a $40 brush hog. Some one else knew what it would cost to operate it in a safe manner. do not use with the present shaft if you value you life or anybody nearby. Most times bargains are not..

Most tractor dealers and farm stores sell individual repair parts for PTO shafts. You can buy bare inner and outer sleeves and re-use your existing universal joints, couplers, and safety guard. You will have to do some fabricating, including possbibly cutting and welding to complete the repair. Your welding technique should be reasonably good before attempting this on your own. A shaft that fails suddenly under load is a safety hazard.
