Anyone make a three point hitch posthole digger with the auger drive being hydraulic rather than pto? Would rather avoid busted shear pins, be able to vary speed and be able to back out from stones, tree roots etc.

i made a post hole digger out of an old loader,
cut the loader arms down, welded bracing in between, and welded a mount for the hyd motor to bolt to, i bought the hyd motor at a farm suppy store, i don't know what capacity it has, but it works fine. the digger mounts on the 2 lower arms of the 3 pt hitch with 2 pins. sorry i'm unable to show a pic of it on here. it really works great and is strong. i also used hyd motors on my grain cleaner and the unloading auger of my grain bin.

Have had a Danuser (don't know model #) for about 10 years; can't imagine going back to PTO type (although I've dug thousands of holes with them) after having this one. Have usually used 4020s, which has plenty of hydraulic capacity.....

I have a hydraulic driven post hole digger which I bought new from what was then our IH dealer way back in the early 1970's. Can't read the label anymore but it think it was a McMillen, and it has a label "CISCO" on it which I think was a distributor. It is yellow and works pretty good. The only problems I have encountered is that the frame was built entirely too light. First the main lift beam (pipe) bent, then the yoke that pins onto the 3 point arms bent, but now we have it all reinforced and haven't bent anything lately. You are right, being able to reverse it is great when you get it in a bind or hook a rock, etc. Also, if you hook something real tough, it will just stall out and not shear anything. Was never sorry that I bought it. I know I have seen hydraulic driven post hole diggers at local equipment shows so someone out there is making them. Good luck finding something.

Landpride, Rhino, Danuser. Strangely, Bush Hog and Woods seem not to offer hyd drive units.
