I have a JD B remote cylinder that is leaking oil. I want to repair it. Is it hard to replace the seals, O-rings etc. in these old cylinders? I have never done one before. All advise greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm doing one for an 'A',and when all said and done I'll have the most expensive remote cylinder in the country! When you pull off the end cap make sure you save all the old seals and take your piston and all the old parts down to your John Deere dealer and see of you can get the new seals for the KIND of piston you have. When I bought my cylinder for 40 dollars little did I know that someone long ago had robbed the rubber seals off the piston in mine and I found out that JD had changed out the kind of piston I had at least 4 times and I could no longer get the seals for the one I had ,so I had to find the piston that I could get parts for. I just got the right one in today at a cost of 48 dollars. I then got a rebuild kit at Deere for 60 dollars and I haven't even bought new hoses yet !. If you have an out dated piston and JD can't get the parts , just go to you local seal store like ' Motion Industries' and they can match your old seals! I never had 'old seals' to match! Good luck and you shouldn't have any problems. if you save the old parts. But the job is pretty easy . Morgan
