Been messing around with a Ford 501 mower I picked up the other day and was wondering how to adjust the lead and trail of the bar. (manuel has been backordered) Archives has a lot of good information but didn't see this addressed. Looks like the end of the bar is about 8" - 10" farther back than it should be. Any help or sugestions until the manuel arrives is greatly appreciated.

They have a safety deal incase you hit a rock and your just suppose to back up with it on the ground to engage.

It appears to be as far forward as it will go. Old mower is in pretty good shape, just don't think the bar should be that far back and don't see anywhere to adjust it.

The bolts on the inside shoe are on an eccentric lobe and that is how you adjust tour lead.Sounds like yours has been BENT back to be back that much.

I'm not even sure how it should be adjusted, maybe just shims in the yoke, but the far end of the bar should be leading by a little. Trailing is bad....

Have you checked the bushings where the bar rotates up & down? They could be quite shot it be trailing by a foot.....
