Can I bushog thorny locust?

Curious if I can bushog 10-15 acres of thorny locust which ranges from 2 feet tall to 12 feet tall? I know the mower can handle most of it, the big question is, can I do this without getting thousands of thorns puncturing my rear tractor tires?

I live in North East/East Central Kansas if someone needs a reference as to what type of tree/thorn I'm talking about.

Sounds like a good excuse to go buy a old Farmall H or M on steel. Might be a bumpy ride but no flats.

Just got through doing what you are asking about. Must be a hundred thorns in each front tire. They were flat the next day. Went to the farm tire dealer and put a whole bunch of that professional stop leak in and it worked. It is a miracle the rears didn't suffer the same fate. Don't mow 4' high locust or you will be sorry.

I think what you have is known as Honey Locust ~ bees use the trees I guess---anyways you will get flats. As a cancer survivor I avoid spray chemicals. and spraying will not keep you from getting flats. See your local farm tire dealer...mine has a liquid that costs about 25$ a gallon with 3 gallons needed on rear tires...but is very effective in preventing flats from thorns. If you have black locust? the thorns are not big enough to cause any problems.

James, That stuff is probably a first cousin to our Mesquite here in Texas. SPRAY first! Use Grazon,Remidy,Crossbow What ever flavor you get the best results with. Then cut down later.
Now to you question, I would hand spray with a backpack sprayer. Then cut and pitch in piles or on a trailer then haul out and burn. I have a mess after a fellor said he could stay ahead of my mesquite by shredding it off. I now have 5yr old tops with 8 to 10yr old root systems. It takes more spray because of this mess up. It is harder to kill Don't make my mistake. So-- Spray,Kill,Hand cut,Haul out/burn = Dennis very happy!
Good Luck,
John A.

PS-- retreat any regrowth!
Later, John A.
