I am having to replace main drive shaft on a junker 10 ft Howse I bought. After getting into the gear box I see the two gears...main drive and subordinate gear are somewhat chewed up...the one is worse than the other. I think I have no choice but to replace the worst chewed one...they run near 100$ each. am considering not replacing the one that is just chewed a little...what do you think?

Find a set of good used, or replace both. You can spend $200 now, or $100 now & $200 real soon again.....

Hummm... $100 now, and $200 later ($300) vs $200 now.....

Change both.

Somewhat related story, I chipped a gear in the out drive on my boat. Still ran ok just made a ticking sound. Check with a local marina, $1200 to have them rebuild the out drive vs. $150 for me to replace gear and seals. Well guess what I was doing a few months later. (hint $1200) Good thing I had tow insurance, the tow in alone would have been over $300.....
