Which one is the better machine? I have found one PT-7 for $500, field ready. It comes with a parts machine, and a second parts machine is availible for scrap price. I have just run across a Hesston 1070 for $600 and can't find out much about it. I did find a fair amount about the PT-7, it seems like a good older machine. I cut less than 60 ton a year.

Thanks, Ted

i have a pt 10 and would caution you about the cost of new parts at hesston dealers. i remember paying about 150 dollars for just the end of the sickle bar. i'd get the one that has the most spare parts.

Well, if I were you, and if I had the money, I'd buy all of them. But if you can only do 1, which of the two running machines is in better shape? The PT-7 with both parts machines may be the better deal, depending on what kind of parts are on the junkers, and what shape the 1070 is in.

I've been running a PT-7 since bought new in 1977. A very reliable macine. It's even still on it's original polyband belt. The only thing I've had to replace other than cutting parts are the plastic bars inside the reel that time the fingers. The main "improvements" in the 1070 are in the wobble drive. If you have a good local dealer either will work well for you.

Around here the only PT-7 I have seen was field ready for about $700 I think the 1070 is a newer machine. They both should be worth the money but do not think I would spend much more. I bought a PT-10 three or four years ago as is where is for $200. Put air in tire pulled it home have since replaced drive belt one bearing. I just greased it oiled it and went to the field. So far I have cut about three hundred or so acres with it.

we had a pt-10 & traded it for a 1090 I thought the pt-10 was the better of the 2.
