Would you post the web site you mention before reguarding photos of the ford balers. I pretty much decided to go with the red/gray scheme since they did come that way. I talked to a ford (NH) dealer and his part book shows that all the ford equipment used the same paint as the tractors and as far as he knew, ford only used 1 color of red.

Yeah, Jerry it felt pretty good to have that MF baler work so well....especially after fighting the learning curve on that beast all last summer.

Now to the subject of Ford colors of the 50's: Most of what I know is based on what I've read. However, I can say that my '55 Ford 850 (tractor) has been repainted at least once. I can tell by the outline of the original decals under the current coat. I have the orangy red on the castings, but where it has peeled there is a "redder" red underneath. One source that I tried to link but was denied due to YT fears of competition, says that tractor colors remained the same from the 8N through the first Hundred series (600/700/800/900). Then in '58 when the Hundred series was upgraded to the x01 series', the colors shifted a bit. The gray went lighter (almost off-white) and the red went kind of orange...kind of a tomato red. Since then, the only paint you could buy from Ford (and then New Holland) for repaints and touchup was the newer shades. That's why so many older Fords have the newer shades of gray and red. Email me if you would like the forbidden link.

Maybe Scott from NH will join in here but I think there may have been a couple of shades of red. For some reason I thought I remembered Scott giving out a couple or 3 different reds. I personally like the gray and red baler color the best especially if you are using an 601 or 801 series to bale with. Just matches so well. One of the reasons I like the looks of my 530 with the '68 2000. They just were made to work together. If Scott or Jim UT doesn't respond soon then go over to the Ford Tractor forum and somebody there will have the information. Jim may still be out there on that Utah field dancing a jig because his MF Baler worked perfect. I think it felt threatened that he nearly has his 542 Ford baler working. LOL We need pictures of your project as you go. I loved watching Kelly's 68 come together.

Yo Jerry D in NC,

Where abouts are you in NC? I may be down that way in late July just west of Ashville. I'd like to see your collection of Ford balers.

Shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks!
Bill
