I have a Howse 10 ft rotary cutter. Checking the blades underneath...this is a 3 gear box system, one center transfers power to 2 lateral boxes...I notice that the blades hit each other turning by hand and overlap a good 2 and 1/2 inches. This can't be right? even tho both blades are moving ---looks to me like I need to shorten these blades to where they do not overlap?

You need to time the two spindles. Probably done by removing one of the driveshafts and reconnecting it so the bladebars are perpendicular to one another. DO NOT shorten the blades.

Yes I see that the splined shafts keep the blades perpendicular when set so no interference...still glad I asked ---in reassembling this will be an important point.
