I have a late model IH #45T baler. I can only get the damn thing to successfully tye on the right side!!!!! I had 3 bales tye today and the rest the twine broke. I have tried polishing the bill hook, I resharpened the knife, and still, the knot stays on the bill hook and the string breaks! I've had it with these knotters. Would knotters off of a #46T fit? They look the same, just different metal used for the bill hooks.

My father had an IH 45 and bought a new 1970 Ford 3000 gas. The bailer just about tore the pto apart on the new tractor and never developed a good bale. I would not have that model on the farm.
Had NH ever since.
Good Luck,

Well, I put chrome bill hooks in it along with chrome twine holders and it doesn't miss a beat, tied EVERY ONE out of about 1000 bales.

The manual sez to loosen the tension on the bill hook.

Is the twine old?

Is your ground speed fast enough to feed enough hay into the chamber to make a uniform charge on each side?

Just my 3 cents worf!

Try 46 knotters they are crome and won,t rust. Make sure they are in good shape and not worn out. Maybe tension is alittle tight on knotter. You can still buy new 46 twine bills. Is the twine being cut cleanly without leaveing stands? I put washers between where the knifes fasten to the baler this helps cut twine a little quicker. Just somethings to try before making someone A YARD ART PRESENT.

Well, the twine tyes and sits on the bill hook. When the plunger packs more hay into the chamber, the right knot always pulls off, and the left one pulls half off, then the twine breaks underneath the breast plate. It looks like it was just simply pulled apart, no signs of burs or clean cuts. The twine knives were new 4 years ago, and the baler worked like a champ until this spring. We bought it brand new in 1958.

It sounds like the strippers are missing the twine

Actually IH balers and Claas balers (perhaps some other makes too? ) do not have a "stripper" as such. The billhook faces rearwards, and the completed knot is pulled of the billhook as the bale is bieng pushed out, unlike say NH balers and other balers with Rasspe type knotters, where the billhook rests at 90 deg. to the bale in the chamber.
