I borrowed a neighbor/friends IH 27 baler to bale some hay with. He said not to hurry bringing it back. I doesn't bale to bad, misses occationally when you run a clump through. Does anyone know what years these balers were made? I works good behind my Farmall M. It makes grass hay bales kind of loose and would like to find a solution to making them tight. I am done using it for the year and didn't hay enough hay this year to mess with it much. I remember his saying if you tightened the chamber down to tight that it would start missing bales.

I looked it over real good and there are no grooves in the needles and the bill hooks have very little grooving.

Any help would be appreciated. I do have the manual, but have been too busy trying to get other things done to read it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Bob

What your neighbor said has been pretty much the experience I've had with mine. The design is such that it'll never make bales as tight as a Deere or New Holland. If you try by tightening the chute(or if you go too fast or get a big slug of hay) it'll miss the knot. I think they were made in the 50's, my manual shows it being pulled behind what looks like an H.

If you have a manual and no time to read it, you are wasting your time here (and ours). Read the book.
