Got about 10 acres in windrows, so I really need some advice. Bales are nice and square, I don't think it's the feeder tines. The problem is that the string lengths are very inconsistent. If you compare the strings off a bad bale, they may be 5 or six inches different in length. Knotters work fine, that's not a problem. Tried, tight bales, loose bales, can't seem to get it worked out. Using sisal twine, makes a mess around the knives. Tried tightening up the string tension, helped some. Any ideas appreciated!

If you are talking about different lenght on the same bale it sounds as if one twines has more tension than the other.

Are you talking about different lenght of twine on the same bale? If so I think you have more tension on one twine than the other. Check twine route from box see if they are equal, see if they have about the same resistence as you pull them through by hand.

I am not sure that I understand the problem. Is the bales different in length of up to 6 inches. Is that what you are calling bad? If so then it is not considered a major problem. These bale length metering systems will vary plus or minus one pad of hay. That means if you are in a heavy windrow where the baler is pushing in alot of hay on each stroke then it will vary that much. Most bales will trip the knotters in the middle of a pad but every so often one just trips as it finishes a pad and every so often one needs a fraction of the next one so again the pad size will determine the variance. Now if that is not the problem then my apologies.

The problem is that the left and right string lengths vary on the same bale. The actual size of the bale is pretty consistent, and they come out of the thrower nice and square. When you go to pick them up, one string is perfect, but the other is loose and the bale falls apart. I think Sid has the answer, because the tension on the string is uneven as it goes through the tensioner. I'll tighten it and see if things get better. Thanks guys.
