If you've got a bar hitting up at the top when the baler is running then you will need to remove a bar. Just follow the procedure in the owners manual and you'll get along just fine. I've done it many times and it isn't hard. I assume you have tightened the chains. You do that by raising the tailgate and turning in the ajustment bolts. Then shut the tailgate and turn the bolts back out against the stops and tighten the jamb nuts.

does a bar have to come out, or could i try taking out a link first, I've tried tightening the chain with the bolts and it helped, but still too loose

Yes, one bar along with a section of chain on each side will need to be removed. You'll need hand grinder and two short log chains along with a hammer and the right sized punch. Take the master links apart on each side (while you have a log chain around about 4 bars on each side) and shorten the chain the appropriate amount. Put the master links back together and tighten the chains and you're done. We traded our 855s off about ten years ago so I hope I am remembering everything correctly.

It really isn't hard to do at all with the right tool. If possible have someone show you the first time, I can do it but I can't descibe it.
