I have a chance to buy a Hesston PT-7, mid-to-late '70's vintage, I believe. It looks good except it needs a new reel bearing on the one side (the side opposite the tounge). I think this is the side with the driving chain for the reel. The seller said this bearing went out on his dad a couple of times through the life of the machine - is this normal? Is it a "standard" bearing, that is, a flange mounted unit I could pick up anywhere? Or a dealer part? Any thoughts on this machine, good or bad?
Thanks a lot,
- Jim H.

you can get the bearing at any bearing supply cheaper than a dealer. you dont have to buy the flanges. these bearings do go out because theyre sealed and cant be greased . Do you know where i can find a pt7 for parts, i need the main reel, mine is rusted out. thanks tony in NC

I've had a PT-7 for years and it is an excellent
machine. Most parts are still available from AGCO.
I replaced the reel bearing on the drive side and
I picked it up at my local bearing and seal shop.
The bearings are lubed for life from the factory
so if the machine is outside it shortens the life.
They are good machines, but keep in mind it is in
the range of 30 years old so problems will come up
