Frozen Driveline

I recently bought a Kuhn GRS21 tedder/rake and have been repairing it to get it in working condition. All was going well until I realized the driveline was frozen - ie. it doesn't telescope. It was left in the weather and I'm sure some water got down between the telescoping tubes and rusted. So, now what? I could replace the thing but I'm not sure how to get it off. This is a pretty basic question but if I remove the clips on the outside of the u-joints will it come apart? That would be good. If not, there's a roll pin connecting the driveline shaft to the yoke. I could remove that but I'm sure the shaft is rusted to the yoke too. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long message.

DD, I have a Kuhn tedder and the PTO shaft on my
model has the same type connector on both ends
of the shaft. It's the same push button PTO hook
up at both ends. If you look under the PTO cover
you may see it is very easy to get the shaft off
the tedder so you can work on it easier. If your
shaft comes off like mine you might be able to
shoot some Kroil down the end then tap with a
hammer and punch. Good luck.

I had the same problem with the PTO shaft on a sickle mower..soak the oil and penetrating fluid to it, smack the ends(U Joint) with a hammer and it will break loose and slide, once you have it loose make sure you oil it regularly...Mike in Exeter Ontario

The PTO on a tractor is not designed for pulling... take the shaft off the rakeand anchor one end to something and use a chain or something to pull on the other end and slowly pull.If it doesn't come apart, need to get a new one..

Try hooking to just the pto, w/out hooking on the hitch. May take 2 people for this part. Pull away from the machine with the pto hooked on, and it should pull out. It the tedder rolls easily, block the tires or chain something to the rear, to hold it still. Once apart, clean it up, apply libaral amounts of grease, and it should work for you.
Good luck Donovan from Wisconsin
