The knotter drive chain on my NH 66 sags a lot, but the chain tightener is tightened all the way. Can I remove a link or two from the chain, or will that throw the baler timing off?

thanks,
Tom

Tom,

I think I would consider replacing the chain. It is relatively cheap and available. The reason it has gotten too long and loose is wear. It will break and probably cause more damage than the chain would cost. Removing a link and tightening it up might be just enough to finish it off.

I don't think that should be a problem. If you need to recheck your timing, Kelly C has instructions on his website. You'll find alot of good info there. Unfortunately, I can't recall the address, but you can find it in one of his posts in the archives, I think the title is " NH 68 is done"

You _always_ need to recheck the timing when you do anything with the chain!

I just removed one link from the knotter chain on my N.H. model 68. I had to re-time it but I had no trouble with it keeping time after that. I have only baled some loose bales out of the barn since I did it. I might be wrong but it seems to be working.
