: : I have a cylinder on my loader that has been tested and am told needs new valves. It has been losing power. The cylinder looks pretty solid to me - I am told to "open it up", and pull the valves. What /how do I open it? : : What do I look for and how do I remove it? Then, I assume I can take the parts to an implement dealer and match them, because this is a second hand part, painted red, and I have no idea of brand. Then how do I re-install? Are special tools needed? I am an average, not advanced mechanic - is this something I should be messing with?: Red, I have read your last posts and have a few questions. Is this a single line or double line unit? In other words, do you have one or two hydraulic lines running to the cylinder? If it is a single line, you have to have a vent to allow free movement of the piston. Some cylinders are shipped with plugs since they dont know if one or two lines will be used. If this is so, a simple fix. If not, is the cylinder a bolt together or welded unit? If it bolts with thread bars running down the sides, service is pretty straight forward. If it is welded, there is no cheap or easy fix. Those will either need replaced or sent to a shop. Hope this helps, Dennis H. Dennis - this is a two way cylinder, and does not have bolts on the sides, it is smooth. I noticed what looks like a large nut at the top, where the shaft goes in. Could this be unscrewed and the thing pulled out? Or is this a shop job?
