I just bought a MF #12 baler. The first time I tried to use it I broke both of the needles. It never did tie a bale but I found later that the string was knotted up in the spools (I know I should have put new string in). After they broke I put new needles on and set the plunger timing according to the instructions printed on the side of the bale chamber. Now what?? A neighbor told me that the plunger was probably out of time and hit the needles. It wasn't out much at all when I set it and it looks to me like the plunger is slotted so the needles would go up in these slots antway. Isn't there supposed to be some dogs that come up and keep this from happening? At $138.00 each for needles, I don't want to break them again. What can I check?

Thanks, in advance, for the help.

The plunger might have been out of time and hit the needles.are you timing the plunger with the packing fingers or the needles? My suggestion would be to turn the baler by hand to see if hits anything like the needles again. Of you would have to trip the the arm to make the needles work. Also make sure the chains are tight to.Hope I helped you a little bit becareful and have a nice day.
