I am making progress on my NH 451 sickle bar mower thanks to everybody that helped me!!!! I have some different questions. Should I set the cutter bar level or pitch it down a little? I have the metal swathboard with the rods, should I let the bottom rod touch the ground? I set my cutterbar as high in the shoe as I could set it because I use the mower for trimming. Thanks!!

The old ford 501 had a wheel assembly to replace the swathboard when trimming. It looks like the wheel would control the bar height pretty well. I guess when trimming you don't have to worry about laying the grass down for raking. Don't have a wheel myself so I can't speak about it one way or another.

I have found that when mowing taller stuff to tilt back a little to help it fall off and in lighter shorter stuff tilt it forward to help get under the grass a little bit more so you won't skim over it.

The adjustment is provided to allow the bar to skim over rocks. If no rocks- tilt it down a bit, will be more aggressive when cutting.
