Just bought a Bush Hog brand Razorback and was looking for some comments. I know this is Bush Hog's lightest mower(they recomend 1inch stuff or less) but the dealer said it would cut up to 2 inch softwoods, as long as I went slow and did not push it. It is a very reputable dealer and has a good name in the area(does a lot of business). Just wondering what you guys thought? Thanks. Casey

I guess it depends on just what you call "slow". I started clearing of my farm which hadn't been plowed in 27 years with a Woods mower that had shear pins. It was a pain in the butt, but doing so I learned what is hard on the mower and what is not. My advice, if you are just going to take out an occasional larger soft wood sapling, is to feed it into the bush hog on the extreme right hand side while edging forward ever so slowly. This will bend the tree away from the travel of the blade and allow an easier cut than if it were on the left side. On the left side, as the tree bends, the blade will hit and grab on the underside of the sapling with an "all or nothing" effect". One second your are edging forward, the next it sounds like baseballs bouncing around under the mower. This will put less stress on the whole machine but once again, if it is going to become a practice of taking out large areas of large brush, you bought the wrong Hog. Hope this helps and always remember that you can't be too careful around this equipment. Things will fly out from under them ALOT faster than they are fed in to them...
