I replaced the pitman on my 46 but cant figure out how to connect it to the sickle. There is ball and socket joint with a spring in between but cant get the socket tight to the ball and the spring wont stay, if any one has experience with these mowers id appreciate advice, thanks

Is the locking lever free to be pushed back all the way to force the two halves to close around the ball on the sickle?

The spring is free and i can close it but it wont make any tension to close the ends.

Did you replace the whole arm or just the wood? You might have a bad coupler if it is new. They are easy to change so maybe use the old one.

Go back and look at your old pitman. Sounds like you need to whittle a little bit more and drill the spring hole the same depth as the old one. Comparing the old and new will show you best of all.
