I have a belt driven New Holland cordwood saw that I would like to convert to three point, using the 540 rpm PTO on my John Deere 4200 to power the saw. Would appreciate any input from anyone who has done this.

A friend of mine did this about 20 years ago and it worked out fine. At that time I happened to have a belt pulley attachment for an 8N Ford (which has a right angle gear box) he used that gear box and mounted it on a frame built to attach the saw to his three point. Since my friend is an accomplished machinist by trade he put multiple V sheaves on the output of the gear box and the Saw. But I would think a short flat belt would accomplish the task and eliminate changing out the flat pulleys.

Thanks, Tom.

Is the Ford Belt pulley designed to slide over the existing PTO shaft or does is replace it?

It slides over the original PTO shaft (1 1/8" as I remember) and had, (I belive) holes for 4 bolts that attached it to the rear housing of the Ford. What he did was weld a plate with a bolt pattern laid out to fasten the gear box to on the 3 point Saw frame. He then put a PTO adaptor on the input to the right angle gear box that went from 1 1/8 female to 1 3/8 inch male, which allowed him to use a standard PTO shaft between the Tractor and the Saw.

Now I know to be on the lookout for one of those belt pulley's.
