I've found another grain drill. It's an IHC 150 shoe drill and from the sounds of it, in cherry condition. Since it's a shoe type, it has gotta be pretty old, doesn't it? Haven't seen it yet, but from the sounds of it, it's immaculate. What do you think one would be worth, and the $100 question, can parts be had? Are they alot worse than double disc openers? Tim (nj) are you out there? Gosh, I love this game!

The 150 was still in production in 1980, and I believe may have lasted through the 1985 merger with Case. The 150 is a rarity in these parts, since it is a western wheatland drill with large press wheels on the back (the kind that you see pictures of hooked together in 10' sections to form 60' drill batteries on the plains). When you say shoe drill, do you mean a drill with hoe points on it, or a single disk drill with side openers?

A shoe or (hoe) drill has points which make a v for the seed to drop into. The large packer wheels press the seed firmly into the ground. The reason for the hoe or shoe is to put up a ridge to catch snow and get the seed to moisture. It is used in arid areas of the country with great results. The spacing of the rows usually are 10 or 12 inches apart. Parts are available for it.
