I am looking at purchacing a 1219 JD mower conditioner to use for cutting hay this summer. I currently have a Gehl 2175, and it works great. I want a second one to use so my brother and I can both mow at the same time. The haybine is in good looking, and I'm told operating condition. All sections are in the sickle, has stub guards which appear to be straight, and the real is in nice shape. The dealer wants $4500.00 for it, and will take in my 7ft mower on trade.
My questions. Are these good machines? Anything I should know about or watch for? Is this a fair price?
I appreciate all your opinions. Thanks, Aaron

Those with black reels are best as they are later versions. Non clog guards are excellent but you must adjust them once in a while, but that is also easy. Check for welds or cracks around wobble box mounts. Replace knife head and pin if worn. Make sure roll material is still bonded to the rolls and not coming off. $4500 is a little high.
