I have a FMC Sidewinder-5x5 brush hog mower. I'm looking for the part that is "dome" shaped that goes on the underside of the mowing deck and mounts to the steel bar that the blades are mounted on. I believe that this part protects the spline/shaft that comes down from the gear box to the steel bar that turns the blades. I'm sure this "dome" also acts to push the deck over rocks and stumps when mowing.

Can anyone tell me the name of this part and where I may find one in the Detroit, Michigan area? Thanks if you can offer any help or suggestions.

Sidewinder is out of business. The best source for parts would be Modern Mfg. in Beaumont, Tx..
The tire driven mowers are still manufactured by Gilcrest Mfg. in Holden, Mo..

All I ever heard it called is a stump jumper, or a stump guard. I couldn't find an equipment site for FMC. You are right it keeps the cross and blade from getting hung up on stumpsand big rocks.
