Long story short, neighbor pestered me to bail his hay thought I would use his antique rake instead of moving equipment. It is a dearborn bar rake that runs off the rear axle runs a chain from the axle to a clutch that runs the rake. Something in the hubs broke now the axle sproket dosent turn. What will I find when I look into the hubs? Thanks in advance I get this fixed Ill put it back where it was and NEVER touch it again!

Basic honesty demands that you show him how that it stopped working. If the breakdown was not caused by carelessness he should not hold you responsible. I am not a mechanic but likely there is a spring out of place on some kind of a ratchet dog or perhaps a key or pin sheared. A girl with no experience with a Dearborn rake.

Hang in there Miss Grundy. Glad to have gals in ag.

I loaned a mower to a neighbor and his boy went out to mow. Didn't realize that when you lift the mower (3 pt) it can (and did) contact the drive shaft and can (did) break the mower yoke at the tractor PTO. After about a month of him telling me he wasn't through borrowing it, the truth came out. I told him that he was not responsible for the price of a new one but I did expect something from him as my old one was now no longer usable. We split it.
