I was cleaning up my baler today and I think I discovered why the knotters wouldn't stay in the home position. After I cleaned and blew all the chaff off the knotters I noticed this spring loaded arm that appeared to do nothing. I looked in the parts book and it was supposed to have a roller on it and the roller falls into a notch to keep the knotter in place. It all makes sense now. Next spring I will install a new roller and spring and I should be set! Thanks again for the responses!

Glad you found real problem. Be sure to check those hay dog springs too while you are in there. When one spring goes-- you know the rest. Thanks for the follow-up.

For easy access under the knotters, there is one bolt that holds the assembly down, remove it and the whole knotter side will swing or rotate around the drive shaft. Those springs break easily, several times we had thread a piece of wire to jerry rig a repair.

Glad to hear you found the fault and thanks for sharing.
