I have been using the 9000' per pair of spools sisal twine( the coarse yellow/orange stuff ).

Can I use the more tightly woven greenish twine? I thought I read somewhere that some balers work better with the green smaller twine...

Thanks!

- Tim

I run 170lb knot poly. (7200 per single ball)Used it in Deeres and New Hollands best thing I done. I could not get good consistent string plus it cheaper. Works for me. I have been selling to others also that are running older 14t balers and they are happy with it.You do want to keep it picked up though. Not any different than string as you need to keep it picked up also or it all ends up on the spreader beaters etc.Rick

Color of the twine doesn't mean squat. 9000 feet per ball is a twine of lesser tensile strength. 7000 feet is a thicker twine, stronger twine, fewer feet per bale- so you can make heavier, tighter bales. On some balers, when you switch to plastic, you need to switch to a different bill hook. Then it handles either sisal or plastic in the same manner. 16000 foot ball is for round balers. Very thin, but enough wraps still holds the hay together.

OK- messed up again- should have said 7200 instead of 7000. The reason you get 7200 feet instead of 9000 feet is because you are buying the same SIZE ball of twine, so the 7200 foot ball is THICKER and STRONGER twine.

I"ve been using the 9000 sisal, but having trouble with strings breaking on heavy bales. I am going to try the 7200 next, don"t know how it will work. Tried the plastic a little, but baler didn"t like it.

I tried 9000 Sasal from the IH dealer this year in my NH 68. Paid a few more bucks per bale of twine. Suppose to be the premeum stuff. I must report that the cheap Green 9000 from Fleet Farm works much better in my machine.
That pricey stuff pulls a knott apart about every 25 bales.
With the cheap stuff I break a twine about every 100 bales.
Maybe my old NH just dont know what to do with the good stuff.

That is similar to the problem we were having with this old JD 14T, knots pulling apart. About one out of 20 or so, maybe a bit more. Of course this is the first time we really had the baler working, one strand would stay tied well, the other had the knots that would come apart once in a while. The knotter on that side might just need a bit more tweaking.

When my dad bought the 336JD I now have he tried lots of different twines. Had the best success with Southern States Gold Label, Premium 10000 sisal (a yellow twine). I switched to 9000 plastic when I got my NH bale wagon. Went back to sisal this year, same 10000 SS premium. Been a good move, I was missing about 2 knots out of 25 (knots pulling apart). As of Friday last I had done 3761 on the 10000 sisal and (knocking loadly on wood) havent missed one yet. I would not use anything weaker than the 10000 though. I treid a 16000 green sisal in my roundbaler once, most of the green 16000 (but not all) is standard grade rather than premium. I got some that was substandard, had sticks and everything else woven in it. Went to the 16000 premium treated for regular and 16000 premium unoiled for baleage. Been pleased. Never saved enough on twine to be worth the hassel.

i always used the tsc sisal twine and it did just fine. if there is a problem it might be more of a wore parts ,twine tension thing. i never did get into trying to trying to adjust the baler too much. not enough confidence in my mechanical skills but if you have the time and not too much hay on the ground. good luck!and be safe !!

Not sure why you want to change. You didn't say there was a problem. I use the sisal 9000' stuff in my 224T and it works fine. I won't have that plastic stuff on the place because it gets wound up in everything and won't rot away. No matter how I try to keep it picked up it still seems to end up all over. I have seen serious injuries to livestock which got some wrapped on their feet with resulting swelling and infection before anyone noticed also. My preference.

I use 140 I think in a 24T. It's plastic in either orange/white, blue/white, or orange (from TSC). I think the smaller dia twine 110 is made for round balers in 20,000 ft (two rolls).
