I"d like to refer to an ad that appeared on 8/25 regarding an International Harvester drag bushog. The ad number was #78012.
It is identical to one I own and am in need of parts for. Could anyone identify the model type? I believe the vintage to be about 1959. I need the short front shaft section in it"s entirety. I believe it included a square adjustable shaft and a button coupler, none of which I have and need. Thanks,
Al

You could ask a CIH dealer it is possible that they could still get you one. I recenlty bought a Deere #5 sickle bar mower that was missing the fron part of the pto shaft and Deere no longer has them so I went to a local store that sells farm supplies and bought a square shaft 1" square from there pto parts section and I bought the weld on U joint with the spring loaded button to fit it at a TSC store between the two stores I got what I needed. Some shafts are rectangle some are square and some are irregular shaped I think you can get about any size and style of shaft parts needed through places that carry PTO parts. E-mail me if you like I hope this helps you some. R Wyler

Thanks for the suggestions.
My other question is whether anyone who owns IH equipment can identify this particular drag bushog model. I think it's a late 50's model, possibly '59 or '60.
It can be seen at: Link

Your welcome I am glad I could help a little. I really don't about serial #s I can't seem to get that link to work though late 50s early 60s is a good guess. Maybe some guys on the IH board would know about these mowers. Let me if I can help any further. R Wyler

Hi R.W.
I had gone over to the Big Red website and posted there, and gotten basically the same response about getting a pto made up. I was hoping someone there knew the model type so that I could research the model further, but I guess not.
To make a short story long, my Dad bought a 24O utility I.H. in the late 50's when I was a kid. It was a two-point quick hitch system and he bought several implements with it, one of which was this bushog. Several years ago I sold off the tractor and all implements but kept the bushog.
I let someone borrow it one day and failing to securely hitch the pto shaft to the tractor, it came off when the guy was making a turn while he was out hogging and the front section made life lively for the operator----fortunately he wasn't hurt, but it stove that front section all up. I parked it out on the side of the barn for the last few years and had been hiring a guy to hog my fields. I figured that it was obsolete and finding parts would be next to impossible. Surfing a bunch of tractor/implements sites one day not too long ago, I came across an add here. A guy down in Independence, Ky. had one just like it! Unfortunately, it was too far away and secondly, I think he sold it because the photo-ad has been removed, though it can be accessed here in the archives.
I then got to thinking that perhaps it wasn't as obsolete as I thought and that for the money I was paying to have my fields hogged, I could do it myself, so here I am.
In the meantime I keep surfing and asking. Someone, somewhere probably knows these bushogs.

Hello Alan I will look at the archives and see if I can find it. That mower you have is special I imagine since your father bought it. replaceing that shaft shouldn't be difficult. That would indeed be scarey have a shaft come loose like that. You should be able to find out what model it is easy enough. If you want to e-mail me I would like to invite you to our chat room we have a nice little group and we need to ad to our group. I will see what I can find out on these mowers as well. R Wyler
