Check out your local outlets of tractor parts. You may find as I did, that you can buy cheaper than you can tinker up something that may or may not work. By the way, I don't use mine much, but when I need it, it's darn handy!

I don't know what you're planning on lifting; obviously you're limited somewhat with a Cat II hitch. If you're doing some serious lifting, I'd suggest something like some of the smaller local auction companies use..... ...refer to Richard Fazio's plans; scrap the two triangular braces; make a pivot point where the boom connects with the vertical mast; put a good hydraulic cylinder under/between the boom and mast (forming an [approximate] equilateral triangle). If you do this, all components have to be HEAVY..... 6--8 inch thick-wall square tube or something similar. This will give you much more range of motion and also capacity..... .

Someone over on the "N board" had made up a boom pole from a hydraulic engine hoist. All he did was add lower hitch pins and an attachment point for a top-link to a ~$200 hoist from Tractor Supply.

That'd make it dual purpose (he left the wheels, etc. on it). I don't know how the strenght of the hydraulic hoist would hold up to the requirements of a Cat2 strenght tractor, though...

CK, email me. I can send you a lot of pictures and plans. I built myself one also. It was pretty simple and works great. What tractor are you going to use it on? Mine is used on my ford 8N. It's kind of limited by the small tractors weight. If your using it on a larger tractor you can build a pretty heavy duty one and lift heavy stuff. Here's what I started with. third party image
The picture is a little blurry. If I email it to you I think It will be a little better. Plus I have photos of a few different ones I got ideas from. Mine is made of 2" black pipe and the bottom is a draw bar. I had the draw bar and the pipe so that's what I used. I have a chain hanging from it and the unused lengh of chain hangs out inside the pipe. I can pull it out to the length I need and clip it into the slot on the pipe.

Don't have plans but its not that hard to build all you need is a upside down V and a brace on the pole from the bottom of the V hook the 2, 3 point arms to the bottom of the V and the center to the top link and add a pole that is braced to the bottom of the V
