Anybody experienced with this type corn picker? I've got a chance to buy a one row picker for $195. It's been sitting inside a shed for 10-15 years (it has sunk down to the axle, but the tires are still holding air). The husking bed was new a year or two before being parked and the picker overall looks pretty good. I guess what I'd really like to know is if the price is close to right and if there is anything I should look out for. It will only be used for about 5 acres of corn a year. It's getting hard for me to find the time to pick corn by hand! Thanks!!

Probably made by Woods Brothers. Left hand snout, I'm guessing. Parts hard to find, although there are probably many junkers out there to scavenge. Saw two of these pickers (not running, but complete) not sell at an auction in July. They didn't even go for scrap. I'd offer $150, you can always go up. Should last a long time on 5 acres if you keep it inside and maintain it well. just be careful with it though, there are lots of pinch points on a picker and NEVER EVER stick your hands, feet or anything else into a corn picker while it is running! Beware of the PTO shaft, as many of these older machines lack shielding on their rotating parts.

In my younger days I picked corn with a Woods Bros picker that was well used. Sounds like this one would do a good job for you so long as it is properly cared for, park it inside.

Heed Tim's advice, pickers are DANGEROUS. Think before you reach, and remember unshielded shafts can grab your sleeves/pant legs.

I've got the Deerborn Wood Brothers model the the prev followup discribes. If it is the same as the ford I can relate the following.

1) Bought mine for $75 road side
2) Also will be picking about 5 acres/year
3) This was the first year using it watch the following.

a) Rollers should be solid, no plan b) You will live or die by the belts. After 2 rows I had to take spacers out of the adjustment pully only to find out my belt was streching! c) There is a 3rd feeder chain link drive on the left (facing snout) below the pair of feeders. You will lose ears to slipping down the rollers with out it! d) Watch for play in the husking bed and any other gears. Your bed is redone so it should be good and worth the $195.

Anybody have information on replacement parts or sources for bearings?

I appreciate all the comments! The guy's stuck hard on $195. I offered $150 and he wouldn't budge. Wouldn't even pull it out of the shed so I could get a better look unless I agreed to buy it at his price. I probably would have bought it if he had moved at all on his price. Might still buy it although I only have about an acre and a half left to pick. I hit a few farm sales each year and haven't seen anything except New Idea pickers so parts may be a big problem. Thanks again!
