I recentley purchased A Gehl 4600 Skidsteer 1980 Model.
The problem I have is that when I raise the bucket
or lift arms they will not stay up..... even with
an empty bucket!
The bucket and lift arms will slowly drift down
and if I have A load in the bucket it goes down
much faster.
seems like something is leaking but I don't know
what to look for.
thank you in advance for any help.
Rick.

you posted this a while ago
it could be one of three things
seals are leaking on the cylinders
or you have a fluid leak
fluid leak is easy check all hoses and cylinders
and fluid tank if low add fluid should work until
fluid leaks out
seal leak is harder to check eliminate other first
could also be valve leak wont leak out just past seals in valve into closed system let me know how you made out or if you fixed it already

If there are'nt any external leaks (visable oil drippings, spurting), it could be one of two possibilities: 1- The internal cylinder packings/seals/o-rings are bad, and allow the hyraulic fluid to leak back to the downpressure end of the cylinder. 2 - The valve (control) body itself has an internal leak allowing hydraulic fluid to leak to the wrong "side" of the valve body (so-to-speak). The cylinder packings/o-rings are relatively easy to change. That's what I'd try first. They're not very expensive, and it may cure the problem.
