Trying to figure out snow plow attachment on Farma

I have a Farmall A 1944 with a home made snow plow and mount that came with it. I'm trying to figure out how it was made operational. I have the mount attached to the tractor as per the drawing I received in this manor: Two bolts to the back draw bar (I call it the draw bar seems logical). in the front there is a "mast" which is attached to the square hole that the cultivator arm might attach to).

To that is a block and tackle (block/fall) system which runs to the back of the tractor on the right side of the mount. The front is lifted with a two point cable mounted to the front of the plow mount. I haven't attached the blade yet because it seems easier to lift just the mount while figuring out the hard part.

The drawing mentions a spring assist. I have a handle with lever attached to the floor of the tractor on the right side next to fender. It has a bar attached to it running toward the back with a hook at the end.

I attached the land plow mount to the back of the tractor. At the end of the wire rope running from the block and fall is an attachment that came off another land plow arm. That attaches to the land plow with cotter pin.

I can't figure out the connection from the lever to the land plow mount which would in turn lift the front of the plow. There is no spring attached to the lever. Spring assist is mentioned in the drawing. It doesn't make sense to me (after several trials) too hook up a spring to the plow mount via the handle already mounted on the tractor to make the action needed.

I have a larger two handled lever system that appears to mount under the tractor body bolting to the two bolts just on the other side of the battery box. The other side has no attachment points. These springs lift up when activating the handles. Could this be the spring assist mentioned in the drawing?

This other handle set in addition to having a single mount has two bars that appear to be of the right size to mount in the plow mount brackets on the back of the tractor.

Now that I have totally talked around and around, does any of what I described sound familiar? I could upload some pictures of the set up if I could figure out how to put them on this site.

Thanks,

Al

I just posted a series of pictures of the plow set up. I could take a few more of the rear of the tractor as I have it set now if that will help. Maybe a scan of the drawing would be helpful?

Thanks, Sorry for the very long post before.

Al

Al, My dad had a few 'A's with some home made attatchments, so yours is not unusual. What you need is a link between your landplow lift and your lever. it needs to be on the left side of the tractor, so perhaps your double levers would work. it also should lift when the lever is moved forward. the assist spring is a long coil spring, like a garage door assist spring, that goes fom the lever forward to a fixed anchor point in the square cultivator mount hole. I hpoe this helps. tm

TM:

What you said makes sense in that I was thinking the guy who owned it showed me in July that the plow assist goes on the left side and that the handles I have seem to be made to fit on the left side. After that, I"m lost.

However, I was able to rig something up with climing slings, carribeaners and another handle that mounts on the right side of the Transmission block of the tractor engine. This lever location is about 3 feet forward of the seat.

It should work through the season then I will have to do a lot of research and try to get with some local farmers or tractor enthusiasts around me.
