I was wondering what the name of the part that slides onto the drawbar of the tractor is called, and what is the benefit of it over A regular style hitch? It has A pin that slides up through A swivel ball that connects it to the mower.

Equal angle hitch in reply to Roy Hobbs, 03-27-2005 06:45:40
Roy,JD called it an equal angle hitch because both u-joints on tractor and mo-co were the same degree when turning if tractor drawbar was set correctly.540 rpm setting is 14in from end of pto shaft to center of hole in drawbar.Tx Jim

Hi, The hitch is called an equalizer hitch. I think it allows you to make sharpper turns. Its important that you set the draw bar to get the distants they want between the PTO and connector pin. Bill

Hi Fellas, After reading your responses, one says 14'' from tip of pto to hole in drawbar(tractor?) and the other says 14'' from tip of pto to the ball in the mower tongue. At least thats the way I'm understanding it.Which one of these is correct?I'll get A manual as soon as I can find one. Thanks for your help.

Roy,if I remember correctly as it's been nearly 20 yrs.since I worked a a service manager for a Deere dealer the measurement of 14 ins.from end of pto shaft to center of hole in drawbar is correct. If that is not correct what would adding the equal angle hitch to drawbar benefit?Somebody correct me if I stated it wrong.Jim

What the manual says in reply to Tx Jim, 03-28-2005 12:54:11
The distance from the center of the PTO shaft to the top of the drawbar must be from 6 to 12 inches. The top of the rear end of the drawbar should be 12 to 17 inches from the ground. The drawbar hitch pin hole must be aligned vetically with the centerline fo the tractor power-take-off shaft. The tractor drawbar must measure 14 inches from the end of the 540 RPM PTO shaft to the hitch pin hole in the drawbar.

The equal angle hitch must be a tight fit. Shims should be placed between hitch and top of drawbar.
Tighten adjusting bolts on top and side of equal angle hitch until there is approximately 1/32" clearance between bolt and tractor drawbar. Tighten jam nuts against hitch.

The manual has a diagram to make this clearer. Part# OM-E63033 from your JD dealer.
