Would like to hear from anyone with experience using finger/wheel rakes. Any make/model or more specifically the Befco rakes sold by Central Tractor (now Quality Farm & Country)
Thanks in advance
Karl (broadacresfarm@juno.com)

I have a Gehl 402 3-pt 4 wheel finger-type rake. Bought it a few years ago in a pinch, when the old JD rake that my grandfather had gave it up for good. It has its good point and bad points. Good: picks up lots of short stuff bar rakes miss, like 4th cut alfalfa. Also flexes over uneven terrain, great for raking shredded cornstalks for bedding, especially over cultivator ridges. Simple machine, with few parts to worry about. Keep the bearings greased, and replace any teeth that may break, and that's about it. Bad: Can't turn with them. Have to pick up at the corner, turn, and put it back down, then rake the corners out from the center. Sometimes mixes small stones in the hay. Doesn't like big windrows (like 15' of straw from behind a combine in 80 bu. wheat.), as there isn't enough frame clearance to push it through.
