I have a massey 1455e round baler, i've had it for 10years and although it has never given us any trouble mechanically, it does have a tendency to be awkward to start certain crops, it will bale hay or really dry "haylage" type grass like fun. But when were making silage and the grass has a lower DM it is terrible, it eithr wraps on the starter roller or just sits in the mouth of the baler and clogs.... it has driven us mad on times. anyway i've come across a massey 822 for sale (quite cheap too) and just wandered if anyone knows how these balers are at baling silage and any other info on them! i believe it is similar to a vicon RV126, thanks Alan

Yes the Massey 822 was made by PZ in Holland. It will bale Silage but does not have the heavy duty drives to do much of haylage. You can bale haylage with a Vermeer Super I or after baler.

cheers folks, bit more info, The 1455e is a silage machine, it has hardened rollers with silage scrapers, but it just doesn't like certain crops! the 822 also has scrapers on the front and back drive rollers, so i guess this is also designed for silage work?

It is normal for a baler designed to bale dry hay to give you trouble when you try to bale silage with it. If you want to bale silage, then you should get a "silage special" model. Sometimes even with the same model of baler one can be a silage edition and the other one is not. Silage models have heavier shafts and bearings to take the extra stress from baling wet heavy hay.
