Hey Guys,

Can anyone nail down this drill model?

"11ft John Deere, fluted feed, 8" spacing, alfalfa boxes, rubber on metal packer wheels, heavy duty trail hitch for packer, tires are up, always shedded."

Thanks,

Allan

That could (rather vaguely) describe drills made by Deere from mid '50's on. Also, the presswheels could be original or aftermarket replacements. Hard to say. 8" spacing is throwing me though... Most Deere drills I can recall were 7" or 11"....
Check it out.... I've got a boat-load of Deere drill manuals.

Hi Guy,

You darned right. I'll just bet it is one of those old 10 footer galvanized 7" single disc things.

Won't know for sure til I see it, but that would be plumb okay with me. I've drilled a million acres with those old things and it would sure serve my megar purposes. (Longer time in the field, don't ya know). :>)

Thanks Pard,

Allan

Hi Jim,

No, that's why I'm wondering what it is. I had put an ad in the local swap shop and got this email back with the description.

I know the people so am sure I'm gonna buy the darned thing, but was just wondering what it was 'til I can get down there to take a peek at it.

The "rubbered presswheels" has about got to make it one of those old galvanized types, doesn't it?

Dunno,

Allan

The galvanized drill was a model B.It could be equipped several ways. Here in Indiana you could buy one new for $400 in the early 60s.17 hole, double disk, rubber tires and drag covering chains. No press wheels. They were a very nice drill for the money.I bought one used and gave a lot more that the original $400 .That was in the 80s when I bought it.
