Allan, Custom rates in the Panhandles will be a flat rate/acre, to a certian bu. and so-much/bu for the overage. A certain cost/bu to haul up to say 25 mi.
After it is all said and done just figure for a rule-of-thumb about 1/3 of the crop going for harvest. Hope this helps Allan.
Later,
John A.

Have you tried the Iowa State Extension's Decision Maker? It might give you some ideas on costs.

There's even a section specifically on custom rates:

We have a guy do it for us for $30.00 an acre for anything; wheat, corn and soybeans. That includes the combine, a grain cart, and a truck. Two trucks in corn.

$30.00 flat for taking it off the field to our bins or to the local elevator.

He usually does this alone, so we run the cart and trucks to save time.

How many acres are you talking?

Hi Guy,

Probably 60 acres a year until I can gather up enough steam to get an old combine and a truck.

This thing has come together so darned fast that I find myself 'wanting' in a lot of areas.

Maybe Ted Turner is right; plant the whole she-bang back to buffalo grass. :>)

For 60 acres you should contact your local antique club and let them have a threshing bee. Fun, free and .... loaded with liability:(

i donated $20 an acre to my neighbor last year for my wheat, that included wagons to haul also. corn and beans around here go for anywhere from $15-$30 an acre, usually includes all suport equipment also. don't know if wheat is the same or not. you gotta remember though, we are relativly close yet along ways apart, prices vary 8>)
