Thinking of purchasing a newer hay baler. I don"t need anything big, only have small acreage to bale. Also would be using it behind a L3010 Kubota tractor, its 25 hp at pto, does anyone have any thoughts on the 565 NH baler? A dealer told me it would handle it okay. Would like to hear from some people who have used this baler.

Thanks for you information.
Steve

My neighbour was using his smaller Kubota on his old New Holland 273 and after about 3000 bales the gearbox on the tractor went.Too much surging from the baler.

Well I guess it could run it but at 25hp not very well. I would think if you got into any kind of swath you would be short on power. I'd want to have min. 50hp tractor for power and some wieght.

I have used my L2250 Kubota (26 pto Hp I think) to pull a JD 24T square baler on many occasions when my bigger tractors were tied up with the round baler or the haybine. I was just baling and letting them fall on the ground to be picked up later. Horsepower wise you can operate the baler with no problems. However as Steve said if you are on steep ground or pulling a wagon you will need more tractor. A square baler is not very hard to turn power wise. But put it on a steep hill or put a load of bales behind it and you have another matter all together.

The 565 is currently New Holland's small baler, but keep in mind that it would have been considered a pretty big baler 30 to 50 years ago. If you have any hills or are going to pull a wagon behind it, I would prefer a little bigger tractor. Not so much for the horsepower, but for the weight. Steve

Thanks for the information, I"m currently using a MF #3 that is wore out and it pulls my tractor pretty hard going up hills. My thinking that a newer baler in better working condition would operate more efficently and reduce the load on my tractor. Are there any other maybe older models that I should look for that would be considered a small baler.

Thanks

To ease the load on your machine with the MF#3, be sure that the hay blades are good and sharp on the plunger and that the clearances are properly adjusted. These are low volume machines and when properly maintained only require ~12-16 pto hp to run the mechanism. Of course this leaves you with little power to pull the machine with which causes your lugging.

Like a previous poster stated, the NH 565 is a lot more machine than the balers of 30-50 years ago. I do not believe that it will solve your problem and actually may make it worse. However, if the dealer is really hot on selling this machine to you, ask him to bring it over for a trial when you plan to bale hay next. See for yourself first hand. All he can say is no...

I know one inside bale box slide is wore out. I wonder if you can still get those from a dealer? Thanks again for your information.
