Hi Guys,

Here's the pictures I promised John of the rubber rollers inside the NH 849 baler. The small upper roller has worn the worst because it is the guy that is in contact with the chain when the door is closed.

I tend to agree with KEH, that upper roller (stripper roll) is not suposed to be in contact with the chain. clearence is supposed to be 1/4 - 1/16 measured at the bar.

Thanks again Howard,

I've ordered a manual on the darned old thing and when it gets here I'll give it the once over on all the adjustments.

Thanks,

Allan

Allan, Talking about a baler 2k miles away that I have never seen in person is doubtful and I hope Steve NH checks in with an expert opinion but here goes: I think what you have is a closed throat baler but it seems to work fine baling hay. The big bottom roller is what starts the bale by turning the hay against the chains. I don't think it is an issue on chain rattle or wear. Do the chains even come in contact with it? The tears on the left of the big roller may have bee caused by the earlier chain brake. The wear on the small roller look like it was caused by the round bolt heads like you said and the chain itself is not being worn by contact with the roller. Suggest you ask your NH dealer for his opinion. Is the chain in contact with the roller after hay feeds in and the bale starts? Someone else will probably have better knowledge than me.

Devcon makes a two part polyurethane kit that is made for building up just that kind of wear after you figure out what is causing it
