We have a New Holland 630 baler and have had it for about 10 years. We never had any major problems with it. Yesterday, we were just finishing up the 1st cut and dad was running the baler. As he continued to go, the baler stopped running, but the PTO kept running going. We figured the shear pin broke but it was still good. We tore into the grear box to find our problem. Instead of a 1/4 inch shear pin breaking, a shaft about 1 1/2 inches in diameter twisted in half. Go figure.

I once had the plunger crank break on a IH 56 baler, wasn't even baling anything tough at the time. Think the metal just fatigues over time.

Clear as mud.

:o)

Just kidding.
Actually, it kinda follows that old maxim:
"A ten cent fuse will protect a $300 picture tube by blowing first."
