Safety Concern! Has anyone experienced a safety issue with the Roto Hoe model 990-5. it would be doing a fine job of tilling the ground until it made contact with a hard section of ground... and like a wild bronco it would buck and take off like a bullet; the handles hitting the operator and knocking him to the ground. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR EVENT?????

Believe it or not again, Bobs right cause I just put my coat and Elmer Fudd cap on and went out and looked. I climbed around a Massey and over a Ferguson and moved some stuff and there it was.
Rotohoe chain drive tiller. Said pioneers of american power equipment on it. Also mfg by Rotohoe Co., Newbury, Ohio 44065. Then model no. and ser. no. I took the motor off of it years ago and put it on a hyd. unit and from there to a log splitter. Don't know if it will ever make it back where it belongs or not. It seemed like a good tiller to me, had about 4 speeds forward and I think 2 in reverse. I guess I kept it cause it was made in Ohio, kinda partial to that state. Fred from the Mung Factory

Fred, 15 years ago I was in business with a friend whom stole be blind but that is another story. We sold the ROTO-HOE tillers for one season. They were working sons of a gun. Everyone that I sold myself generated me another sale because of its performance. What was so great was you could detatch the drive unit from the tiller and attach other equiptment. Most of the ones I sold were 8hp 4 forward with reverse and sold for $499.00 that was in Tennessee.MacB

Belive or not I live about a 4 miles from the old Roto Hoe company here in Newbury Oh. As to bearings you should be able to get them at a bearing supply house in your area. There will be a number on both the cone and cup just take them with you and they can match them up. We had a company named Bearings Inc. and they always have ben able get me my needs even for my 34 Plymouth.however I know they are now called something else. Check you yellow pages on line chances are there is a bearing house to help you.
Merry Christmas!
