Hey Folks:

Will a JD 2 cylinder (A or B) Operate a front mounted shaver post driver? I'm wondering whether the powr-trol hydraulics are capable of doing this.

Thanks for the help.

John

Look up the spec's for the Shaver in terms of gallon's per minute and compare that to the JD spec for hydraulic flow available on your tractor. If the tractor's capability is equal to or greater the the post driver you'll be fine. As I recall, the post driver requires about 4 gpm but if you don't have that it will just raise a little slower. The weight and the springs plus the unrestricted return to reservoir is what makes the driver work.

On the J D 4010/4020, the foot clutch operates a belly pump that pumps hyd.fluid up to the front piston hyd.pump. When pounding, put tractor in park, foot off clutch, otherwise the piston pump runs out fluid. The secret to Shaver is an unrestricted return on hyd.line. Going through the hyd.couplings doesn't work too well. The hyd. flow on a 4010/20 is more that adaquit for the driver.

It will operate it,but not as quickly as a newer model, also additional reservoir may be needed just to keep the fluid cool.
