Pete: At the best the Wico distributors were poor. If you really want a good setup, go the later model delco distributor(recently saw one on Ebay). You'll need an external coil, also a resistor block. You may even want to consider electronic set up for this distributor. Solves a lot of problems. Good luck.

Pete, Bill Lopoulos [978-649-7879] has coils for the XD dist for about $60.00. Are you sure the dropping resistor in the distributor isn't burnt up? [common on the XD distributor].
~If you are looking for a cheaper way to get it to run, you can convert it to an external coil by adding an auto parts store coil, [probably 6 volt on that B]. If you want to go that route let me know & I will talk you through the conversion. You will also need a coil bracket of some kind to mount the coil. It probably isn't worth the bother if you have to buy the coil but will be rather inexpensive if you have a 6 volt coil lying around.....
