1935 B shifter problem

Both of the shifters in my 35 B are stuck all the way to the left in the gear box. I assume the front (high gear) shifter should be in the neutral position when the rear (reverse) shifter is in the left position. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks for any advice you can give

Fred, as you have found the early tractors don't have much for interlocks on the shifter shafts & will go into more than one gear at once. Your problem, while not common has happened to many people at one time or another.
~To answer your question: one shifter should be in neutral while the other in in gear. If they are both in gear the trans will be locked up & the tractor won't move [you have probably found that out already]... About the only way I know of to get it unlocked is to pull the trans top cover & manually put both shifters in neutral, then re-install the shift cover with the shift lever in the neutral slot.....

Is the multiple shifter locked in the reverse position? Lower left?

With this trasmission, reverse requires the High/low lever to be far right or in the low speed position. It should not be in the high position when reverse is selected. The high/low lever does not have a true neutral postion and should be either left or right. Try moving the High/low far right. If the gear selector is in reverse, maybe this will free it up.

Thanks. I'll make certain it is in the low position.

I finally fixed the problem, but I had to take the shifters and the shifter shaft off. The gears finally released after rotating the sliding gear shaft by taking the cotter off and putting a big socket on the nut. I am replacing the fulcrum ball socket and gasket to prevent future problems (hopefully).
